Basic Presenter Skills
This is a one-day workshop designed to give tips, tools and techniques for better music radio presentation aimed primarily at newer and younger presenters. The aim is to give radio presenters the skills to encourage listeners to listen for longer and come back for more. Topics include: personality presentation, understanding research, show preparation, content generation, contest ideas, benchmarking, using phones and texts, getting great callers, forward promotions, 'teasing', production and understanding the keys to success. Participants will learn basic presentation skills, improve the quality of their presentation, discover new ideas, stand out from their competitors and explore different ways of doing things on air.
Coaching and Critiquing Radio Presenters
Effective coaching of presenters is the key skill of today's radio programmer - but too few of them have the knowledge and confidence to do it properly. This one-day workshop aimed at programmers and producers covers both the theory and psychology of coaching, managing and inspiring creative individuals and includes practical critiquing of real airchecks including a comprehensive list of do's and don'ts to motivate creative presenters in regular 'snoop sessions'.
A half-day seminar covering defamation, contempt and privacy with lots of audio and text examples and stories of things that have gone wrong in the past. This session can be tailored for presenters and producers or journalists working in the UK.
A half-day seminar covering offensive and discriminatory language, the rules about running contests on air and the separation of advertising and editorial as well as an outline of Ofcom, the way it works and the Broadcast Code. The seminar also includes a discussion about the important issue of listener trust.
Basic News Writing
Techniques of writing for the ear and not the eye. This one-day workshop is designed to sharpen and improve the quality of writing radio news bulletins to aid listener understanding with tips, techniques and practical exercises together with easy-to-remember rules for radio writing. The aim is to make news bulletins more compelling, impactful, relevant and easy to understand for listeners. Topics include: the art of simplicity, language and grammar, jargon and clichés, context, creativity, attribution and avoiding offence.
News Editor Brainstorm
A half-day seminar aimed at news editors and senior journalists. It includes some fresh ideas for presenting, writing and promoting news bulletins. There is discussion on a station's news agenda and the balance between local, national and international news. There is also a refresher on news writing and help with brainstorming specific ideas for making the news sound better and more effective on your station.
